20 skincare tips for your 20’s.

The decade of your 20’s can give anyone some whiplash when it comes to skincare. One minute you’re out till 3 am and falling asleep in a smokey eye and the next you’re looking at eye creams and wondering if you should start preventative botox.

I may only be half way through my 20’s but my skincare knowledge puts me at a respectable 32, so in my humble opinion, here are 20 skincare tips you should learn in your 20’s.

  1. KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE. This is my number one tip because if you know your skintype you see results much quicker and spend way less money on skincare you don’t need.

  2. NO TANNING BEDS. Look, I know, I know they make you feel good but you already know why you shouldn’t be doing this…(plus tanning makes you age faster).

  3. PAT YOUR VITAMIN C. Patting your Vitamin C into your skin instead of rubbing it in will actually allow it to absorb better into your skin!

  4. DON’T FORGET TO EXFOLIATE. Exfoliate 1-2 times a week to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.

  5. CONSISTENCY OVER COMPLEXITY: A simple, consistent routine is often more effective than a complicated one. If you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start follow this: Cleanse, moisturize, and use sunscreen daily.

  6. INVEST IN AN EYE CREAM: The skin around our eyes is the thinnest most delicate skin on our bodies, take care of it to prevent premature aging around the eyes.

  7. FACIAL MASSAGE = GLOW. Facial massage helps improve circulation, improved circulation = GLOW.

  8. EAT YOUR ANTIOXIDANTS. Don’t get me wrong, apply them as well however, enjoying a nutrient rich diet will not only help with overall health but will improve your skin tone drastically.

  9. CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES. No good can come from that harbored bacteria.

  10. INVEST IN LASER HAIR REMOVAL. If you have blonde thin hair, this one might not be for you. But for everyone else, just trust me.

  11. STOP GOSSIPING. No one is perfect at this but negative energy inside makes for ugly skin on the outside IMO.

  12. THINK THINNEST TO THICKEST. When applying your skincare, if you’re not sure what order to apply think thinnest to thickest and you’ll be right 98% of the time.

  13. MOVE. A sluggish system means less detoxification and more skin issues. Whatever shows up on our skin is a direct reflection of what’s happening on the inside. Find some exercise that you enjoy doing and MOVE.

  14. USE A NEW TOWEL. Don’t use the same towel you use to dry off your body. Invest in the skin club towels or if you want a more spa like experience buy some towels and disinfect them in the wash.

  15. FOCUS ON HYDRATION. When our moisture barrier is off, everything tends to be off. Give your skin the tools it needs to be self sufficient and focus on hydrating your skin.

  16. KNOW WHEN TO SAVE VS SPLURGE. Skincare can be expensive, while we would love to buy the $60 cleanser its just not always an option and not always necessary. My opinion is to splurge on Antioxidants, Retinols and moisturizers and save on the rest.

  17. MAKE IT FUN. You’re not going to consistently do something you hate so find a way to make your skincare routine enjoyable, i.e, put a fun playlist together that you’ll listen to when doing your skincare routine, buy a cute robe, listen to your favorite podcast.

  18. CHANGE YOUR PILLOWCASE. The amount of bacteria that can accumulate on your pillowcase is alarming. Be sure to change out your pillow case and wash your sheets regularly.

  19. DON’T SLEEP IN YOUR MAKEUP. This one seems self explanatory but just had to put it on the list ya know?

  20. FIND THINGS YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF. It’s really easy to pick yourself apart and find things you dislike about yourself but remember you are young, fun and beautiful. It’s cheesy but true, we spend so much time trying to change ourselves and then look back at a picture from 5 years ago and realize how good we looked. So just enjoy the now and love where you are.
